　　留學(xué)推薦信中的常見問題留學(xué)推薦信不管是不是自己寫的，只要推薦人簽了字，就成了一份 legitimate

　　document(大致翻譯成“合法的文件”)。但是由于大多數(shù)申請人態(tài)度的草率或者觀念的錯誤，他們寄出去的推薦信往往一錢不值——根本沒有起到任何作用，結(jié)果是他們白白浪費了推薦自己的機(jī)會。以下就是留學(xué)推薦信中的常見問題。

　　其一，留學(xué)推薦信中用盡所有表現(xiàn)人類美德、才華和優(yōu)秀的形容詞，卻沒有一個具體例證。我們都知道“事實勝于雄辯”，但我們的學(xué)生在給外國人看的推薦信上卻偏偏是反其道而行之。有一次我在電腦上修改一篇推薦信，其申請者就坐在我旁邊看著。看到我刪掉了許多用于贊美的形容詞，那位同學(xué)一把抓住我的手說“再也不能刪了”;好象刪一個詞他就少了一份美德。

　　第二個問題是在留學(xué)推薦信總把申請者吹成一個大師，讓人難以置信。其實，申請者都是去當(dāng)學(xué)生的，如果已經(jīng)是大師了，還需要去讀書嗎?許多學(xué)生都以教授的口吻在推薦信上表示他們“特別地欽佩”這位學(xué)生，他們“一輩子也沒有碰上這樣的天才” 等等。曾經(jīng)有好幾位申請者自己寫好推薦信，準(zhǔn)備讓一位真正的經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)大師去簽字。上面寫著類似這樣的話：“每當(dāng)我的研究遇到困難，他總是成為我靈感的源泉。”如果推薦人還不如被推薦人，那推薦信的意義就蕩然無存了。這樣的推薦信也會讓讀者懷疑這位推薦人的真實水平。第三個問題是留學(xué)推薦信的內(nèi)容千篇一律，讓人一看就是抄的。一般的推薦信都是在對被推薦人的品德、學(xué)問大吹一番以后，開始談到自己是怎樣發(fā)現(xiàn)這位天才的。其中無一例外的描述是：課堂上所有別的學(xué)生都無法回答某個問題，只有這位天才站起來侃侃而談，“顯示了深厚的功底和創(chuàng)造力。”同樣無一例外的是，在描述這樣的情景時，天才都要 asking penetrating questions. penetrating 可以有暗含的意思，就是教授說話有漏洞，被這位天才給捅破了。如果要描述天才表現(xiàn)出來的洞察力，有許多詞匯可以選擇： insightful, incisive, cutting straight to the heart of things, keen. 為什么所有的人都要用 penetrating 這個詞呢?更為嚴(yán)重的是，我看了成百上千次這樣的場景描述，可是迄今為止還沒有一位申請者說得出來當(dāng)時到底談?wù)摰氖鞘裁丛掝}。

　　第四，許多申請者沒有正確地選擇推薦者。作為推薦者一般應(yīng)該具備如下幾個條件。一是必須要有比被推薦者更高職位或更多的學(xué)識，這樣才有能力和資格來評判被推薦者。另外一個必不可少的條件是，推薦者必須有機(jī)會了解被推薦者。所以合適的推薦人應(yīng)該是教過你或指導(dǎo)過你的教授，或者是工作單位中的頂頭上司。在一個有幾萬學(xué)生的大學(xué)里，一個本科畢業(yè)生讓校長寫了封充滿溢美之詞的推薦信。這說明什么?這說明這位同學(xué)很會鉆營。我們千萬不要低估外國教授的智力，他們并不比我們傻。有的申請者千方百計通過關(guān)系找到科學(xué)院的院士寫推薦信。為了制造學(xué)術(shù)權(quán)威對其了解的假象，又是千篇一律地介紹他們是在一次學(xué)術(shù)會議上認(rèn)識的。一散會他們就在大廳里就某一學(xué)術(shù)問題“進(jìn)行激烈的爭論”而且這一爭

　　論一直持續(xù)了好幾年，直到寫推薦信的時候。這位知名人士由此了解了申請者對學(xué)問的熱愛和執(zhí)著。但是究竟?fàn)幷撌裁磫栴}呢?從來沒有人說得出來。

　　其實，找有名望的推薦者遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)不如找恰當(dāng)?shù)耐扑]者。所謂恰當(dāng)?shù)耐扑]者，就是那些有機(jī)會了解你的人。還有一點，許多申請者未必能想到，那些在中國頗具聲望的人，他們的名聲在遠(yuǎn)渡重洋以后也就消失了，起不了那么大的作用。

　　最后一個問題是留學(xué)推薦信寫作時馬虎和草率。許多申請者一口氣給自己寫三封推薦信(一般要求是三封)，然后讓三個教授簽字。這樣，不僅內(nèi)容相同、語氣類似，用詞也差不多，甚至語法和拼寫錯誤也一模一樣，更有甚者，打印的字體也是分毫不差。有一次我審讀了一位申請者拿來的三封推薦信后對他說：“只有一種可能，那就是這三位教授都是未婚，并且住在一處，使用同一臺電腦和打印機(jī)。”

　　我所知道的關(guān)于留學(xué)推薦信的一些瑣事

　　最近2012fall，有不少人問小生關(guān)于留學(xué)推薦信的事情，我就干脆把一些瑣事匯匯總吧。鄙人知道的情況寥寥，有些東西可能也局限于美國MS申請。有錯歡迎指出。

　　1、 紙推？網(wǎng)推？

　　基本上2011fall我所關(guān)注過的美國學(xué)校，都可以接受紙推和網(wǎng)推兩種形式。

　　2、 紙推好？網(wǎng)推好？

　　見仁見智。我這僅把自己知道的一些情況說說。

　　紙推，你要在網(wǎng)申表格下載頁面里下載每個學(xué)校紙推需要填寫的文檔和表格（包括推薦人姓名啊，所在學(xué)校啊，和申請人的關(guān)系啊，還有對申請人的評價什么的），然后再和推薦信一起，找導(dǎo)師簽字，密封，然后寄給學(xué)校。理論上說，紙推會有一個快遞周期的時延，要是你趕著申請，我覺得這個方法不好。

　　網(wǎng)推，會有一頁專門填寫推薦人的稱呼（必填）、推薦人所在學(xué)校研究室單位企業(yè)（必填）、推薦人郵箱（必填）、不知推薦結(jié)果聲明（要打鉤）、推薦人電話（選填）、推薦人與你的關(guān)系（選填）。填好這些之后，學(xué)校會專門給你填寫的推薦人郵箱發(fā)送一封推薦信，一般這里面有需要推薦人填寫的鏈接。推薦人點開郵件里的鏈接，會有專門指引的推薦鏈接要推薦人完成對申請人的推薦，包括保密聲明，對推薦人的評價，還有要寫一封推薦信（電腦上的 不要紙質(zhì)簽名 有的學(xué)校這項選填）。填好遞交即可（遞交后不可修改）。理論上說，網(wǎng)推是不存在時延的。

　　3、 推薦信誰完成？網(wǎng)推里的內(nèi)容誰來填？

　　如果按照正規(guī)流程，上述東西都應(yīng)該是導(dǎo)師完成的。但是由于眾所周知的原因，這在天朝的高校很大程度上是不可能的，所以你需要自己完成。

　　對于所有學(xué)校，你可以先準(zhǔn)備好一份較通用的模板給某位導(dǎo)師。（每個導(dǎo)師寫一個，你要準(zhǔn)備3種不同口氣不同描述角度的推薦信模板，從各個角度深入淺出又不過分地褒獎自己）

　　倘若走紙推，你需要做的有，推薦信（打印出來，對每個學(xué)校做部分修改），每個學(xué)校的表格（打印出來），約導(dǎo)師簽名（一份學(xué)校簽一份，20個學(xué)校20份），然后密封，有章蓋章，沒章簽字。寄出。理論上來說，紙推麻煩一位導(dǎo)師的次數(shù)在1-2次左右，不過一次耗時長，要提前預(yù)約。

　　倘若走網(wǎng)推，你需要做的有，告訴導(dǎo)師網(wǎng)推信已發(fā)送給他，請他轉(zhuǎn)發(fā)郵件給你（一個學(xué)校轉(zhuǎn)一封郵件），你用你自己的郵箱收郵件，點開鏈接完成填寫和評價還有保密聲明（好假），復(fù)制電子版推薦信（不用導(dǎo)師手簽了）。理論上來說，網(wǎng)推會少量多次的麻煩一位導(dǎo)師不停的轉(zhuǎn)發(fā)郵件給你，不用預(yù)約。

　　4、 郵箱必須edu的嗎？edu郵箱不穩(wěn)定？

　　不需要。我申請的時候有企業(yè)推薦人，沒有edu郵箱，照樣可以收到郵件。我從沒遇到過Edu郵箱收不到網(wǎng)推推薦信的情況，所以不必?fù)?dān)心（要是有人遇到了，還望告訴我）。

　　5、 不好意思麻煩導(dǎo)師啊，能不能代簽？或者搞個郵箱？

　　這個我不清楚對于對面學(xué)校影響如何。我想你要這樣做首先得先征得這邊推薦人同意，11fall我申請的時候，導(dǎo)師都沒同意我這樣做。

　　6、 tips

　　某些學(xué)校針對網(wǎng)推有防轉(zhuǎn)發(fā)機(jī)制，轉(zhuǎn)發(fā)郵件后網(wǎng)推鏈接會消失，這些學(xué)校列表我記得留學(xué)論壇有。我申請的時候遇到的學(xué)校有utaustin這所（這家申請巨麻煩，還不接受visa信用卡，只要mastercard）。這時候請麻煩你的導(dǎo)師不要點轉(zhuǎn)發(fā)郵件。復(fù)制郵件內(nèi)容，然后在寫新郵件里面粘貼就不會丟失鏈接了）。

　　留學(xué)推薦信核查篇三：出國留學(xué)推薦信范例(百分百通過)

　　留學(xué)推薦信范例和注意事項

　　大多數(shù)學(xué)校都要求申請人提供二至三封推薦信。有力的推薦是錄取的重要條件之一。推薦信要客觀、公正、切忌流于形式，內(nèi)容空洞，要與申請人的其它材料（如成績單）等相符。推薦信也應(yīng)注意格式、文法等。因為向來有“名師出高徒”之說。推薦信的格式與一般書信基本相同。有信頭，發(fā)信日期，收信人姓名，稱呼，正文，信尾謙稱，簽名，推薦人姓名，職稱及工作單位等部分。但推薦信還應(yīng)著重以下方面：

　　1. 為了便于校方查閱，必須提到被推薦者的全名。

　　2. 必須交待與被推薦者的認(rèn)識期間（何時開始認(rèn)識或認(rèn)識多久），認(rèn)識程度（偶爾見面或密切接觸）及關(guān)系（師生關(guān)系，上下級關(guān)系，同事等）。

　　3. 對被推薦者的優(yōu)點介紹及評價，這是推薦信的核心。主要包括被推薦者的天賦，學(xué)習(xí)成績，研究能力，工作經(jīng)驗，學(xué)習(xí)精神，組織能力，品行及個性方面。

　　4. 必須表明推薦人的態(tài)度，是極力推薦還是有保留地推薦。

　　最近一些學(xué)校出于各種原因，設(shè)計了推薦表格，由推薦人填寫，但其主要內(nèi)容也和推薦信涉及的相同。

　　范例1 計算機(jī)教授推薦信

　　At the request of Mr. Xizhen Chen, my former student in the Department of Computer Science, Beijing Univ. of Sciences, I am glad to write this letter furnishing my evaluation of his academic aptitude

　　for your

　　reference. Mr. Chen is interested in your graduate program in Computer Science.

　　I came to know him in September 1987 when Mr. Chen eolled in my class on FORTRAN IV Programming, a three semesters' course. In the class he was one of the most outstanding students. At the semester final he earned a high grade of 81, which should be "A" according to our grading system. I also found him good at other studies.

　　After the class, he had personal talks with me several times. He indicated a great interest in computer hardware, In my opinion, Mr. Chen has a potential in Computer Science, which can be further developed.In view of his previous achievements in this College, I am firmly convinced that Mr. Chen will make a successful graduate student. Your favorable consideration of his admission will be highly appreciated.

　　It gives me a great pleasure to recommend Mr. Cheng as a transfer to the School of Business Administration of your University in the summer quarter of 1989.

　　During academic year 1980-1984, he was a student in our Department, World College of Journalism. I found him very diligent and intelligent. He often participated in extracurricular activities contributing a great deal to community affairs.

　　Though Mr. Cheng graduated from this college 5 years ago, he keeps, contact with me very often. Worthy of mention also is his personality, honest, reliable, responsible and mature.

　　I strongly recommend this promising young man and your favorable consideration and assistance to him will be very much appreciated.

　　范例3 法律系教授推薦信

　　I am pleased to write this letter for my former student Miss Nan Li, who graduated from this College with an L.B. degree in June 1978.

　　Miss Li was admitted to the Department of Law of this College in 1974 through highly competitive entrance examination which is conducted annually and is open to the whole nation. Even in such a selective group. Miss Li made herself distinguished. As professor and dean of the College, I have access to her records of academic work and moral conduct, In her fourth year study, I instructed her in Anglo-American Laws on Trespass. So I have known her quite well.

　　Miss Li's performance, like that in many other courses she taken, was excellent with a superior grade of 86 for the first semester, and 84 for the second semester. In our university and in other university here, 80 is considered "A" , the highest level.

　　As far as I know, Miss Li wishes to continue her study in Law for an advanced degree. I am sure she has had sufficient prerequisite knowledge for the subject and certainly has the ability to undertake the study.I recommend Miss Li without reservation and shall appreciate your favorable consideration of her application.

　　推薦信的注意事項：

　　推薦信的份量直接關(guān)系到能否出國留學(xué)，能否獲得獎學(xué)金等，作為對外聯(lián)系的材料，是其中一份較為重要的文件。推薦信的目的是通過國內(nèi)專家向?qū)Ψ浇榻B申請人的工作、學(xué)習(xí)和專業(yè)方向等情況。在出國申請是否成功的諸多要素中，有力的推薦信是錄取的重要條件之一，其份量僅次于于本科成績單和標(biāo)準(zhǔn)化考試（GRE、GMAT、TOEFL）成績。

　　多數(shù)學(xué)校都要求申請人提交兩封到三封的推薦信，由教授、系主任或工作主管直接寄給指定的單位。

　　一、選擇推薦人

　　推薦信是了解申請人的重要依據(jù)，在研究生課程中尤其如此。申請人可以選擇現(xiàn)在或以前的老師、教授或雇主。推薦人必須熟悉學(xué)生的學(xué)習(xí)情況，了解學(xué)生的學(xué)習(xí)目的是否明確，在學(xué)術(shù)上是否有前途，以及學(xué)生的適應(yīng)能力、創(chuàng)造能力、品行和特長。

　　書寫推薦信的最理想的人選是一封由系主任寫，一封由專業(yè)課教授寫，一封由自己的導(dǎo)師寫。不過，對方若無規(guī)定，則除了自己的親屬之外，任何人皆可為推薦人。推薦人一般應(yīng)具備高級技術(shù)職稱，如教授、副教授、研究員、副研究員等。如果推薦人在國內(nèi)外學(xué)術(shù)界享有盛譽，或者被申請就讀學(xué)校聘為客座教授，或者曾經(jīng)在該校講過學(xué)，那么這樣的推薦人寫的推薦信就具有很強的效力了。

　　二、推薦信的內(nèi)容

　　推薦信一般應(yīng)包括下列內(nèi)容：

　　被推薦人的基本情況介紹。側(cè)重于個人的畢業(yè)時間、學(xué)校、所獲學(xué)位以及個人的專業(yè)經(jīng)歷。

　　推薦人對被推薦人的基本評價。側(cè)重于被推薦人的專業(yè)基礎(chǔ)、個性、特點、工作態(tài)度和在學(xué)術(shù)上的前途估計。若是推薦研究生，推薦人還需進(jìn)一步說明其深造學(xué)習(xí)的基礎(chǔ)和當(dāng)前所具備的研究能力。顯然，恰如其分地評價被推薦人的基礎(chǔ)、能力和前途，比言過其實的贊譽更令人情服，更具有實際意義。

　　推薦人可以著重介紹被推薦人曾經(jīng)獲得的獎勵，發(fā)表過的論文，參加過的重要學(xué)術(shù)會議，以及曾在學(xué)生組織或?qū)W術(shù)團(tuán)體中的任職等來支持自己的評價。

　　推薦人還必須清楚地表明被推薦人留學(xué)的身份是研究生還是訪問學(xué)者，專業(yè)領(lǐng)域和研究方向是什么。

　　如果大學(xué)提供了現(xiàn)成的推薦表格，則必須按這類表格認(rèn)真逐項填寫。推薦表格中一般有學(xué)生綜合評估的一項，即要求推薦人說明該生在所教的學(xué)生中應(yīng)列為前5％，10％，或25％等。這種評估是指教授的個人評價，可以稍高一點。另外，推薦表格上常有許多難以填寫的項目，遇到這種情形可填"I don't know"，亦不致對該生的評價有何嚴(yán)重影響。

　　推薦信尾必須有推薦人的親筆簽名，最好直接由推薦人寄給學(xué)校招生辦官員或申請就讀學(xué)校的系主任。如果由被推薦人寄送，可將推薦信裝入信封內(nèi)封好后由推薦人在信封口處親筆簽名以示保密。信封正面注明

　　"A Letter Of Recommendation"，表明這是一封推薦信。

　　推薦信樣例 一（管理）

　　Dear Sir/Madam:

　　In the capacity of the former dean of "Dalian Management School" of Dalian University of Technology(DUT), I am writing with pleasure to recommend Mr. Cai to your esteemed university.

　　I got to know him personally when he was taking the course--Methodology of Management Research (or Methods of Management as stated in his transcripts), a course I taught, concerning basic research methods, especially quantitative approach to management research. Then he took one of my other courses--Advanced Strategic Management. Mr. Caleb showed great aptitude on both courses and he got 78 on both, which seem a bit lower, but if you take the difficulty of the test papers and my strict grading into account, you will understand why such scores are still among the top five. Undoubtedly, he got excellent scores on other courses and ranked among the top 5% of his class after the first year of graduate study.
