在遞交留學(xué)申請(qǐng)時(shí)，許多學(xué)校都要求申請(qǐng)人出示二三封推薦信。
有力的推薦信是錄取的重要條件之一，它直接關(guān)系到申請(qǐng)者最后是否能夠出國(guó)留學(xué)，能否獲得獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金等。
一封推薦信除了信頭、發(fā)信日期、收信人姓名、稱(chēng)呼、信尾謙稱(chēng)、簽名、推薦人姓名、職務(wù)等必需部分之外，正文內(nèi)容說(shuō)明應(yīng)包括下列各項(xiàng)：
被推薦者的簽名——為便于對(duì)方查詢(xún)，被推薦者的簽名僅寫(xiě)“Mr.
Wang”或“Miss Zhang” 是不夠的。
用標(biāo)準(zhǔn)的漢語(yǔ)拼音或英文拼法都可以，但必須由被推薦者自己提供，且前后必須一致。
認(rèn)識(shí)被推薦者的時(shí)間(How long have you known him/her)——何時(shí)開(kāi)始認(rèn)識(shí)，或認(rèn)識(shí)了多久。
認(rèn)識(shí)程度(How well do you know him/her)——是偶爾見(jiàn)面還是關(guān)系密切，或僅教過(guò)一年還是擔(dān)任其導(dǎo)師。
與被推薦人的關(guān)系(Relationship)——師生關(guān)系，上、下級(jí)領(lǐng)導(dǎo)關(guān)系等。
被推薦人的表現(xiàn)(Performance)——學(xué)習(xí)上、生活上、課堂上和課外活動(dòng)上的表現(xiàn)。
結(jié)論意見(jiàn)——愿意推薦或不愿意推薦，無(wú)保留或有所保留的推薦、普通推薦或極力推薦，必須明確，當(dāng)然極力推薦為最好。
以上六項(xiàng)是任何一封推薦信所必須包括的，缺其中任意一項(xiàng)則都會(huì)失去函件應(yīng)有的功能或會(huì)大大降低推薦的效果。

如果一封推薦信寫(xiě)得潦草倉(cāng)促或是充滿(mǎn)了敷衍套話(huà)，將使錄取委員會(huì)對(duì)你的印象大打折扣。
三、選擇能夠說(shuō)明申請(qǐng)者的關(guān)鍵品質(zhì)和獨(dú)特個(gè)性的人。
他最好能就你的管理才能、智力水平、為人處事等某一方面做深入闡述，寫(xiě)出一封充滿(mǎn)申請(qǐng)者獨(dú)特個(gè)性的推薦信。
一封好的推薦信不僅要在評(píng)價(jià)方面有特色，更重要的是要有具體的事例作為佐證。
許多申請(qǐng)者的推薦信都會(huì)犯一種致命錯(cuò)誤，那就是其中都充滿(mǎn)了“excellent”，“distinguished”， “ambitious”，“natural born leader”這樣的頂級(jí)贊美之詞，卻沒(méi)有具體的例子來(lái)支持這些“論點(diǎn)”。
這樣的推薦信不僅不能使商學(xué)院增加對(duì)申請(qǐng)者的了解，反而會(huì)讓他們覺(jué)得無(wú)法對(duì)申請(qǐng)者有一個(gè)真實(shí)的認(rèn)識(shí)。
在寫(xiě)推薦信時(shí)一定要注意如推薦人的口吻、幾封推薦信的字體、字號(hào)、使用的紙張、信封不要雷同，否則這樣的推薦信起不到絲毫的幫助作用，反而讓人覺(jué)得這是抄襲之作。
總之，一封好的推薦信應(yīng)該是行文流暢，信中有事實(shí)和分析，而不是一味空洞地吹捧。
另外學(xué)校評(píng)審委員除了注重申請(qǐng)人呈現(xiàn)的自己，也相當(dāng)重視教授或主管的觀點(diǎn)：評(píng)估這位申請(qǐng)人的特質(zhì)，以及將來(lái)在學(xué)術(shù)和專(zhuān)業(yè)領(lǐng)域內(nèi)發(fā)展的潛力：一.
