　　Strong earthquake hits China

　　A powerful earthquake measuring 7.8 has hit China's southern province of Sichuan, shaking buildings as far away as Beijing, Shanghai and Bangkok.

　　It was not immediately clear if there were any casualties or damage from the tremor which the the US Geological Survey (UGS) earlier put at 7.8.

　　The epicentre of the quake was 93 kilometres north of Chengdu.

　　Wenchuan, which took full force of the quake, has a population of 111,000 people.

　　It is in an ethnic Tibetan area in Aba county which recently saw violent clashes between Tibetans and Chinese authorities.

　　According to some reports there was a second earthquake measuring 3.9 which hit the Beijing district of Tongzhou at roughly the same time.

　　Telephone lines in the affected area are jammed and there are still no reports of casualties.

　　Reports from Thailand say high buildings in Bangkok continued to shake several minutes after the tremors began.

　　"We felt continuous shaking for about two or three minutes. All the people in our office are rushing downstairs. We're still feeling slight tremblings," said an office worker in Chengdu.

　　China's tallest building, the Jinmao Tower, and other highrise buildings in Shanghai's financial district were evacuated after tremors were first felt.

　　"People were shouting 'get out, get out', so we all ran out of our dorm," said a student surnamed Zhang at a university in nearby Chongqing.

　　A spokesman for the China Earthquake Administration said it was still checking the epicentre and scale of the tremor.

　　Happiness is like a snowflake, each one unique because the perception of a meaningful life varies from person to person. To many people, happiness means a simple life without any ups and downs, but my happiness comes from a life full of challenge and experience.

　　When I was a child, happiness was the rare taste of independence, a brave leap from the mundane. I remember the first time I tried to to ride a bike by myself without the support wheels. I went back home with a flat tire, skinned knees, and the biggest grin my face could hold. While other toddlers preferred the safe and secure, I was tumbling down hills and swerving off sidewalks. Even now, I can still recall the exhilaration I had felt when I managed to stay atop that bike for those few short moments.

　　Later on, overcoming challenges that I encountered in life was what brought me happiness. You see, I started learning the violin. It was extremely hard and I sounded like I was flaying a cat every time I picked it up. My fingers were awkward and the bow slipped off the strings more times than it stayed on. I spent three hours everyday, sawing at my violin. My fingers bruised and my neck ached, but gradually the mistakes lessened and I was making music. Three years later, I was First Chair violinist in the school orchestra. I still remember the pride I had felt when I took my very first bow in front of an applauding audience. Happiness had felt so much sweeter after a hard won success.

　　When I got older and saw more of the world, I wanted to contribute more. So when most people my age chose to spend the three months before college relaxing, I decided to get a part-time job as a TA at a summer school. I woke up at the crack of dawn, took an hour's bus to the school every day and spent most of the summer vacation sitting in the back of classrooms, grading papers and taking notes on the lecture and tutoring students. It definitely wasn't the most glamorous summer, but it was one of the happiest and most memorable moments of my life. It didn't just make me happy because it had been my first part-time job. I was happy because I had spent my time doing something worthwhile. I had contributed in my own way, and the children were going to do better in school in the coming year.

　　Over the years, I've had my fair share of cuts and bruises, but the scars left behind are the testimony of my own unique experiences and the fulfilling life that I want to pursue. Our time is limited and I want to experience as much as life can offer. My happiness comes from living an exciting and worthy life, true to myself and true to the world.

　　If personal happiness were a self portrait, then each day would be a stroke of the brush, each experience a splash of vivid paint. And when we are old, we can look back upon our life and the dots will connect, every brush of color will come together and reveal a life worth living and a person worth being.

　　語言要盡可能是地道的，去漢語化的英語。要經(jīng)常套用自己在閱讀中、在課堂上學(xué)來句子結(jié)構(gòu)去表達(dá)自己。要敢于嘗試用比較復(fù)雜的句子結(jié)構(gòu)和比較高級的詞匯來使文章進(jìn)一步美化。

　　聽所讀寫四大技能并不是各自孤立的，也是相互作用和相互制約的。如果平時，只注重某一項(xiàng)技能的學(xué)習(xí)和訓(xùn)練，那是不可能成為一位真正的英語強(qiáng)手的。

　　任何一門學(xué)科都需要踏實(shí)的學(xué)習(xí)作風(fēng)。外語也不例外。學(xué)外語的實(shí)主要表現(xiàn)在以下幾個方面：

　　一、落實(shí)詞匯、詞匯知識和特殊句式的積累。落實(shí)詞匯和詞匯知識并不是反復(fù)背記詞匯表中的單詞。落實(shí)詞匯、詞匯知識以及特殊句式的最好辦法是先探究后運(yùn)用。一個詞匯在經(jīng)過七到八次在不同時間和不同的語境中運(yùn)用后，它就是你的了。詞匯知識和特殊句式也是一樣。寫作是運(yùn)用，造句是運(yùn)用，閱讀，傾聽和與他人用英語交流也是運(yùn)用。借助詞典進(jìn)行造句練習(xí)，在造句中運(yùn)用新學(xué)的詞匯不失為一種行之有效的簡單易行的方式。

　　二、落實(shí)課外閱讀。每天堅(jiān)持花半小時閱讀一兩篇短文。一要真正讀懂。二要留意詞匯運(yùn)用。

　　三、落實(shí)早自習(xí)精讀。每次有硬指標(biāo)，死任務(wù)。

　　四、落實(shí)課內(nèi)課外書面作業(yè)。簡單的完成老師布置的作業(yè)量并不是落實(shí)。書面作業(yè)質(zhì)的落實(shí)必須是在真正懂了、記住了的基礎(chǔ)上又快又好的獨(dú)立的、閉卷式的完成書面作業(yè)。對發(fā)現(xiàn)的漏洞和缺陷要采取補(bǔ)救措施。

　　五、落實(shí)自主探究的學(xué)習(xí)能力培養(yǎng)。學(xué)習(xí)中缺乏自主探究，不善于利用團(tuán)隊(duì)合作和與老師溝通是很多高中生在學(xué)習(xí)中存在的一種普遍想象。老師不是保姆，老師不可能把英語的詞匯知識和英語的四大能力烹制成一道道佳肴后，一口一口地喂進(jìn)學(xué)生的口中。老師的探究代替不了學(xué)生的探究。學(xué)習(xí)能力的培養(yǎng)主要是探究能力的培養(yǎng)。學(xué)會了探究，你才會在知識的大海中暢游。學(xué)會了探究，你才會成為終身學(xué)習(xí)者。英語學(xué)科的探究應(yīng)該表現(xiàn)在對某一特定詞匯在文中、在句中的用法和含義的探究，對長難句結(jié)構(gòu)和含義的探究，對相關(guān)知識關(guān)聯(lián)的探究，對作者意圖、主題大意的探究，當(dāng)然也包含對學(xué)法的探究。要探究知識，要有工具（詞典以及各種手冊等）的幫助，更要有團(tuán)隊(duì)的合作，還要有老師的幫助。團(tuán)隊(duì)合作可以讓你取他人之長補(bǔ)自己之短，還可以集思廣益，產(chǎn)生思想火花。常與老師溝通是可以使你更容易發(fā)現(xiàn)前進(jìn)的方向，少走彎路。

　　總而言之，英語學(xué)習(xí)需要同學(xué)們從聽說讀寫四大技能方面養(yǎng)成良好的學(xué)習(xí)習(xí)慣，堅(jiān)持語言知識積累、精讀、泛讀、課內(nèi)課外作業(yè)和自主探究五個方面的腳踏實(shí)地地勤奮努力，就能夠比較輕松地完成高中英語的學(xué)習(xí)，為自己將來的遠(yuǎn)大理想奠定堅(jiān)實(shí)的外語基礎(chǔ)。

　　The tempo of modern civilization has been much quickened in the last twenty years. While witnessing the dramatic changes in the better-off society, people begin to reconsider the question of "survival". "Survival" in the old sense does not bother us anymore. Instead, we are more concerned about how to "survive" in the human world full of competition.

　　Competition always carries abreast challenges and opportunities to everyone involved. It might appear in an entrance exam, in a regular class, or in a small public speech. Those who fail to detect its real nature-whether an opportunity or a challenge a competition really is- will lose something more or less conducive to our growth. Of course, if we take the competition as an opportunity, we will favor it intentionally because they can help us outstand from the average; they will make us become the focus of public attention; they will grant us more chances and rights to succeed. As a matter of fact, opportunities are supposed to be more perceptible and welcoming than challenges. The truth is, however, we will lose more opportunities when we choose to take the "opportunity" fork at the crossroads. The other fork, ignored by us and defined as "fearful challenges", offers much more chances for the walker in competition.

　　We have such an inclination in life to overestimate ourselves and hold a thoughtless attitude towards the negative outlook of things.

　　We believe in the old saying, "Opportunity knocks but just once," so we always welcome it and devote all our spirit and efforts to it. The most devout believer of this saying are the graduates. Why? There are quite a number of them who pay full attention to positions in big cities and are willing to flood into developed areas under any circumstances, even though there will be too much uncertainty for their choices. Innumerable cases go straight to the same miserable end: God seems to refuse to help too many of His worshipers.

　　In conclusion, to define the quality of competition seems to be far from valuable sense, for no matter what a competition is, an opportunity or a challenge, it will create nutritious elements for our growth.

　　So take a positive look at everything around. Keep our face to the sunshine, and we will not see the shadows.

　　In front of challenge there are 5 players.

　　The first player creates opportunity.

　　The second one attempts opportunity.

　　The third waits for an opportunity coming, sitting there and crossing his fingers.:)

　　most people they raise a family, they earn a living and then they die. they stop growing, they stop working on themselves, they stop stretching, the stop pushing themselves. then a lot of people like to complain but they don't wanna do anything about their situation. and most people don't work on their dreams – why?
